THE HOUND & QUILL The Story
There are walks you take with your dog when everything is fine — the morning loop around the block, the weekend trail, the easy ones.
And then there are the other walks. The ones where you clip the leash because you have to get out of the house before it swallows you whole. The ones where you don't know where you're going, only that your dog does, and that's enough.
The Hound & Quill was born on those walks.
Where This Came From
I went through a period of profound, debilitating grief. No external support. No medications. Just the kind of loss that sits on your chest in the morning and doesn't move.
I didn't need someone to pull me out. I wasn't ready to move on. I just needed someone to sit beside me in the fire.
People could not handle the depth of my emotion. The sadness. The absolute consuming weight of it. In my worst moments, the people around me quietly backed away — not out of cruelty, but because grief that deep makes people uncomfortable. They didn't know what to say. They needed me to be getting better so they could feel better.
My dogs never shied away.
They didn't shift uncomfortably. They didn't change the subject. They didn't need my grief to be smaller or tidier or further along. They pressed closer. They showed up every single day with their routines and their joy and their absolute delight in simply being near me — not a version of me that was holding it together.
Just me, exactly as I was.
On the hardest days, the bar was make coffee and put on some makeup. My dogs made that possible. They sat beside me in the fire and they stayed.
During that time I went looking for something to hold onto — a notebook with a dog on the cover, something gentle and quiet that could just sit with me. What I found were prompts to manifest, to vibrate higher, to journal my way to healing on a schedule I hadn't been given.
I couldn't find what I needed. So I made it.
A Companion That Sits Quietly With You
The Companion Series is a seven-volume notebook collection, one for each of the official AKC dog groups, honoring every breed within them. Each volume's cover features the most registered breed of that group — but open the pages and every breed is there, waiting.
Because every dog belongs here. Pure or mixed, rescue or papered, known lineage or beautiful mystery — all dogs carry these noble beginnings. The traits passed down generation to generation never disappear. They show up in the way your dog tilts their head, works a room, or presses close when you need them most.
If your dog is a rescue, a mutt, a beautiful mix of unknowns — these notebooks give you the joy of recognition. You'll see your dog in these pages. That nose, that instinct, that particular way they love you — it came from somewhere deep and noble. The Terrier scrappiness. The Retriever's heart. The Herding dog's focus. Your dog carries all of it, scattered beautifully across the collection. And there is tremendous pride and joy in seeing exactly where those traits came from — in recognizing your one-of-a-kind dog in these ancient, noble beginnings.
Each volume features vintage-inspired artwork, short breed histories, curated dog quotes, and space to write — in whatever order you go, or don't go.
There are no prompts telling you how to feel or who to become. There is no program. There is only the page, and room for whatever you need to put on it.
Because grief doesn't require a death certificate. It shows up in a job you lost, a promotion that passed you by, a friendship that quietly ended, a marriage that came apart, a parent slowly fading, a beloved pet gone too soon. It shows up in the loss of a version of yourself you had counted on becoming.
Whatever brought you here — your dog already knows. They've been sitting with you through all of it. They never shied away from you either.
Come Take a Walk With Me
When I say come take a walk with me, I truly mean it.
However you fill these pages — in order, out of order, one word at a time, or not at all for a while — you will never walk alone again.
With love, Pamela
